Melt In Your Mouth Char Siew at Restoran Sweetland Taman Delima
Restoran Sweetland is a typical Chinese coffee shop with various stalls in Taman Delima Cheras Kuala Lumpur. It makes its name when one of their curry stalls is listed as one of the top curry noodles in Kuala Lumpur by an article by Malay Mail last year. However, we were there not for the curry noodle but for the char siew (caramelised BBQ pork belly) by a Chicken Rice stall.
The stall is popularised by a Facebook food community group recently but there no blogs or websites covered this place yet. We went there early as it is usually packed during lunch time.
A quick glance of their menu, they offer Roast chicken, steamed chicken, Char Siew, Siew Yoke (Roasted Pork Belly) and BBQ Pork Ribs. We were told that they use ‘kampung chicken’ for their steamed chicken.
The lady boss recommended us Char Siew, Siew Yoke and BBQ Pork Ribs but we ordered the Char Siew, Siew Yoke and Roast Chicken.
Let’s start with their roast chicken. The skin is crispy and the meat is tender and this definitely one of the better roast chickens out there.
The siew yoke comes with crispy skin with tender meat. It meat is not as soft as the famous Pudu place but this is as good as it gets. Don’t get me wrong, this is good but it is not awesome.
Lastly, for the Char Siew. This reminds me of the many great Char Siew places in Kuala Lumpur like Meng Kee in Shah Alam and Uncle Meng in Cheras. The char siew feels like ‘melt in your mouth’. The taste is good, the texture is soft and the outer layer is not over-charred. For char siew lovers, this is the place you should visit. This definitely a hidden gem and another great place for awesome char siew.
Well, the rice is nothing to shout about as they are more focused on their meat.
In our opinion, order their char siew and siew yoke. That’s our preferences. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
